Why not to bank with TCF
I recently learned the hard way that TCF bank "modified" their overdraft policy. They decided to disclose the new information in small print on your monthly statement. Who reads their paper statement these days? No one, because everything is done online. Anyways, TCF now charges you an overdraft fee for pending transactions even if they post a day or two later after you have transferred or deposited funds. Sorry, you are already too late. I don't know how other banks do it, but that is bogus. I guess TCF must be struggling in this economy, probably because their customer service sucks too. You have to hold for someone with any power to reverse a fee, then have them send an email to the manager who's supposed to call you back just to have additional fees reversed. That's not all, I also get charged a fee for not writing enough checks every month. What happened to "totally free checking?" These are just a couple reasons to say good bye TCF, hello credit union.
